“Shipping- part of the climate solution”
The International Chamber of Shipping, Armateurs de France and the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association

In recent decades, human activity has impacted climate and natural environment all over our planet. 90 per cent of the world’s traded goods are seaborne and shipping is today the most energy-efficient mode of transportation. As the largest and most important means of global, intercontinental transport, shipping has a strong responsibility for ensuring sustainable development and a healthy environment.
Climate change is a global challenge, and shipping wants to take part in the important discussions on climate change mitigation. The industry is committed to reducing its CO2 footprint and is working to improve its climate performance.

Open discussion on “Shipping – part of the climate solution”
Tuesday December 1st at Centre Pompidou, Paris, at 10 am- 14 pm

RETURN OF SAIL – “Fleet of cargo sailing ships unites under Fairtransport flag.”

Brigantine Tres Hombres made her maiden voyage in 2009 to the climate conference in Copenhagen. Since then, year after year she has been sailing down to the West indies and up to Europe, hauling precious cargoes of cacao, coffee, tea, rum, spices and more. Leaving in her wake: no emissions, and just the wind, for the next ship to use… Now, those next ships are here, and being united. Since last year the beautifull newly built lugger Grayhound is trading with cargo, the famous cargo schooner Avontuur is being refitted in Germany as we speak and the ancient (built in 1873) wooden trawler Nordlys is making ready to set sail with cargo again, this summer. The owners of all these ships have now officially agreed to unite under and be promoted by the flag of Fairtransport.

We will hold our annual conference in partnership with MARIN’s Blueweek and the S@IL Conference. IWSA members will be presenting at both the Natural Propulsion seminar and the S@IL public event and we will hold a facilitated discussion/activity to explore pathways towards commercial hybrid sail. IWSA will have a one hour public event from 1300-1400 (all are welcome!) and then workshops for our work streams in policy, technical standards, communications, market transformation and finance from 1430-1630. We will round things off with a few project presentations, voting on key IWSA issues and agreeing on the plan for the second half of the year.
