Canard Wingsail – IWSA Supporter
Canard Wingsail (CW) is part of the solution for a radically sustainable future for global shipping. Based near Plymouth in the UK. Poised for international impact!
CW is currently in the exciting start-up / R&D phase.
The ‘Zephyr’ wing sail, already in use, is the datum (reference point) wing sail for the purpose of designing a canard wing sail. The Zephyr established spatial properties of height & deck radius. The canard fits into this space. The canard configuration has a bigger wing. The control surface, the canard, is a drive area. This results in an increase of 40% more drive compared to the datum Zephyr.
As well as large ships the canard wingsail can be used on smaller coastal & inland ships & boats, an increase in which could contribute to C02 emissions reductions by taking lorries off the roads.
CW designer is Robert Vincent (experienced design engineer & mariner) & Matthew Lepley (marketing & fundraising).
